CICERO, NY — Basking by the glow of Kraft Hockeyville recognition, five different central New York schools came together to capture Syracuse’s first-ever NYSPHSAA title in 2019.
Hockey roots run deep in the heart of the Empire State — and OneHockey is there to carry on the celebration.
Over 500 Canadian and U.S.-born players, ages 8 to 16 from 35 teams spanning six different age groups, hit the ice at Cicero Twin Ponds Nov. 15-17, and when the ice chips settled five new champions were crowned by OneHockey.
More than a dozen teams from Ontario and Quebec crossed the border to take on squads from New York and Florida, and at the end of the whirlwind weekend new 10U, 12U, 14U, 14U AA and 16U AA team champions hoisted the cup.
Les Commandants du Collège de Lévis, right across the St. Lawrence River from Quebec City, emerged victorious capturing 14U and 16U AA tournament titles.
” Syracuse has become one of our favorite destination and brings great competition at every level,” OneHockey CEO Sebastien Fortier, said. “50 percent of the teams were from Canada! Canadian teams cleaned up and won at every level. We just added a summer tournament in Syracuse this June — U.S. teams will try to take the cups back next!”
