Andrew Basin assisted on four assists of Travers’ goals. After scoring 15 as a junior last season, Travers has nine in seven games for Northern Valley (3-3-2) this season.

Brian Tas turned aside eight shots to record the shutout for Northern Valley, which saw Jeremy Shandel, Matt Weinberg, Sean Murphy, Mike Masterson and Joshua Shames also find the scoresheet along with Travers.

Travers opened the scoring 7:14 into the game on a tap in off the rebound from an initial shot from Murphy and Basin. Travers doubled it with 2:23 left before the intermission on another rebound in front after the Bernards’ goalie could not corral the puck.

Controlling play and moving the puck successfully through the neutral zone, Travers recorded the hat trick 5:28 into the second period.

Travers notched his fourth goal of the game in the final minute of the second frame, burying his own rebound with 20.7 seconds remaining. Less than 10 seconds off the ensuing face-off, Travers scored again after Basin won the draw, taking the puck near-side before finding twine from the top of the left circle with 11.1 showing.

The two goals, a mere 9.6 seconds apart, gave Northern Valley-Old Tappan-Demarest a 5-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

After gliding the puck into the offensive zone in the first period, Northern Valley set up a perimeter before Travers notched his sixth goal of the game from the low slot to cap the scoring with 7:04 remaining in regulation.
