Twelve teams from across New York State were on hand for the “The Guy Mathews Thanksgiving Invitational Hockey Tournament” for an exciting four-day event from November 22-26 at Ebersole Rink located in White Plains, New York.

Named in honor of the White Plains School District coach and guidance counselor, Guy Mathews was an active member in the community for close to 30 years.

Here’s a list of participating teams included: White Plains Tigers, Horace Greeley Quakers, New Rochelle Huguenots, Cortlandt Rebels, Stepinac Crusaders, Harvey Cavaliers, Mahopac Indians, Clarkstown, Monroe Woodbury
Crusaders, Rye Town/Harrison Titans, Brewtown and the West Seneca East Trojans.

Highlights:

White Plains 5, Horace Greeley 4: James Carrier was a beast as he scored three goals, including the game winner with 8:46 left to play. John Meyers and Jason Manorqui also scored for the Tigers.

New Rochelle 9, Cortlandt 3: Nick Scollard and David Benko both had hat-tricks for New Rochelle, while Brandon Cimino had a goal and three assists. Brett Hanson stood out for the Rebels with two goals and one assist.

Harvey 3, Stepinac 2 (OT): James Mettler netted the GWG with 35 seconds to go in OT to lead the Cavaliers past the Crusaders. Luke Baumgartner and Cian Keohane also had goals in for Harvey. Mike Maino and Brandon Waldron scored for Stepinac. Chris Spano, younger brother of former Steppinac stand-out Mike Spano made 29 saves for the Crusaders.

Mahopac 3, Clarkstown 0: Mike Sottile, Gianfranco Pulice and Brian O’Shea each scored in the 2 nd period while Logan MacDougall stood tall in net for the Indians.

Rye Town Harrison 8, Monroe Woodbury 3: Max Chalfin and Jack Shapiro each scored two goals for RTH. While Matt Milone, Christian Pizzutello, Kieran Storch and Mark Hlushko each had one goal for the Titans. Chris Cromwell had a goal and an assist for the Crusaders while Paul McKeon had a goal and an assist and Richard Monda scored a goal as well.

West Seneca East 6, Brewtown 5: In arguably the most entertaining game of the day, the Trojans defeated Brewtown; but not before BT made things very interesting by keeping the pressure on until the final horn sounded. Justin Groux evened things up early in the 3 rd period as Brewtown made this game very interesting. However, the comeback fell just short. Connor Sullivan had a Hat-Trick for BT and Groux ended the day with 2 goals and two assists. Noah Bily of the current Section 6 Champion Trojans netted the GWG with 8:24 to play in the 3rd. Tyler Arndt also had a Hat-Trick and Connor Mentel ended the day with 1 goal and 3 assists.
