Hours after the NJSIAA High School State Finals Luncheon, NHL stars will align for another high school athlete, Mike Nichols, when the puck drops at the fourth annual #MikeyStrong/WFAN Charity Game at Prudential Center this Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Newark.

After raising a rousing $200,000 its first three years to benefit Nichols’ #MikeyStrong23 as well as the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research and improving the quality of life for individuals living with paralysis, the charity event which has become a staple in the Metropolitan ice hockey community continues to raise the bar year after year.

“I’m very excited about the event this year,” Nichols, a senior forward on the Monroe Township hockey team who suffered a debilitating neck injury when he fractured his C-5 vertebrae in a high school ice hockey game at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm on Jan. 4, 2014, said. “Each year it gets better and better. It’s a star-filled roster with entertainment for everyone.”

After two seasons in Middletown, the Devils took the initiative and brought the event center-stage last season, assembling a prestigious roster filled with NHL, NWHL, NFL and other celebrities — all to benefit a great cause.

“It’s very easy to fall in love with who he is — his story,” WFAN co-host and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason said. “This is an extension of the ice hockey community and Mikey is the most instrumental one of all of us. When he came into the studio, he blew us away with the way he was handling his situation literally six months after it took place. When he left, we were in tears. We have sons of our own. The thing about Mikey — he always says thank you — he is always so appreciative.”

This season’s rosters will pit New Jersey Devils Alumni against former players from the New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks. Players from the NWHL’s Metro Riveters will also be on hand.
