PRIOR LAKE, MN — It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done. In a game that saw 13 penalties, all it took was one goalie to step up and make the necessary saves to help his team win.

#17 Lakeville North senior Will Johnson was that guy as he saved 31-of-33 shots faced in a 3-2 overtime win versus Prior Lake in the Hockey for Life Classic at Dakotah Ice Arena in Prior Lake, MN.

“It was a pretty good game overall, especially coming off my off-game against Eagan,” Johnson stated referencing the 6-0 drubbing against #16 Eagan which saw him allow four goals on 14 shots in just under 20 min of ice time before being pulled.

Needless to say, this game seemed to be a breath of fresh air for the seasoned goaltender. Especially after his Panthers went up 2-0 off goals from Shane Griffin and Ben Monson.

The lead evaporated, however, in the second period as Prior Lake struck with goals from Charlie Kashmark and Jackson Jutting.

The two teams couldn’t muster anything in the third and went to the eight-minute overtime tied at 2-2.

In overtime, it was Shane Griffin’s time to shine as the Lakeville North sniper placed a shot in the upper-left corner of the net for the game-winner.

Lakeville North improves to 6-3, while Prior Lake drops to 5-4.

It wasn’t all Johnson carrying the Lakeville North squad to victory. The Panther defenders continually seemed to be absorbing potential shots on net with their bodies. “I just love how they’re always blocking the shots” Johnson said.

Lakeville North faces off against #15 Stillwater (6-1-0), who lost to St. Thomas Academy on Thursday, in the Hockey for Life Classic on Friday.

Prior Lake will face Chaska (5-5-0), fresh off their 6-3 upset of #6 Eden Prairie (6-3-1), in the Hockey for Life Classic on Friday.

Three Stars:

G – Will Johnson (Lakeville North) – 31 saves, 2 GA, .939 SV%
F – Shane Griffin (Lakeville North) – 2 G
F – Charlie Kashmark (Prior Lake) – 1 G, 1 A
