After a turnover at center, Lowrey and Sampson set up Matt Mezzina for the first goal of the game just 1:27 into the action. Exactly five minutes later, Sampson was on the finishing end as the senior deflected a shot from Grantas Mozuraitis at the point to send Jackson Memorial into the first intermission up 2-0. Nick Swain also assisted on the play after Rumson was unable to clear the zone.

Blessed with the man-advantage, Jackson Memorial went back to work in the second period and persistence paid off when Cameron Satkowski’s power-play goal, 1:34 into the second frame, extended the lead to three. Swain picked up his second assist on the goal, which was set up by Cody Jablonski’s one-time pass to Satkowski who made no mistake.

Rumson never stopped attacking and got on the board 1:46 later when Ryan Croddick buried the rebound off Nick Longo’s initial shot at the 11:40 mark of the second period.

Jackson was able to get it back, however, as Michael Krzyzewski stole the puck from Rumson goaltender Sean Ryan (24 saves) off a dump-in and knocked it home as Memorial built a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.

Just over two minutes into the third period, Lowrey intercepted an errant breakout pass and fired home a quick shot to put Jackson up 5-1 at 12:44.

Jack Spagnuola got Rumson back on the board with 9:56 remaining in regulation, but it would be the last time the Monmouth County school would solve Jackson goalie Matt Pousson, who finished with 25 saves. Longo picked up his second assist of the game for Rumson, which falls to 0-3-1.

With the win, Jackson Memorial extends its winning streak to five games to improve to 5-1-1. After tying Morristown in its season-opener, 1-1, and falling to Marlboro/Holmdel, 5-1, on November 28, Jackson Memorial has ripped off five straight triumphs over St. Rose/Donovan Catholic, Brick Memorial, Toms River East/South, Montgomery and Rumson-Fair Haven, outscoring the opposition, 31-8, over a stretch that began on December 1.

The Ocean County school will look to continue its roll in a big, cross-town match-up with Jackson Liberty on December 20. The rivalry ensues when the puck drops at 8:15 at Howell Ice Arena on Wednesday.
