Welcome to the next installment in a series of weekly videos from Hockey Coach Vision!
Each Wednesday for the next several weeks, the staff at Hockey Coach Vision, including Larry Huras, Filip Kostovic and Franjo Zajec, will release a new training video to help you as a coach pass on hockey-specific tips, training and skills to the next generation of ice hockey players.
In our fifth installment, Hockey Coach Vision continues with “Frolunda 2@2 Gap Control.”
Description: This is a high level U16-Pro drill that works on quick neutral zone transition as well as gap control. Defensemen are encouraged to set a tight gap on the forwards then step up and readjust their gap when forwards turn puck back towards their own zone before re-attacking.
-F1 and F2 criss cross and exchange quick one touch passes as D1 and D2 move off of the boards and gap up on the two forwards.
-The Coach has the option of letting the 2@2 play out normally or making a quick double whistle near the offensive blue line to force a quick re group
-On the quick re group, the D1 and D2 must step up to re-establish a tight gap as they they try to hold their blue line
-D men hold their lanes until into their zone then clear communication on coverage
-If D men recover the puck deep, they can make a quick pass up to start next 2@2
