Welcome to the next installment in a series of videos from Hockey Coach Vision!
Every few weeks throughout the year, the staff at Hockey Coach Vision, including Larry Huras, Filip Kostovic and Franjo Zajec, will release a new training video to help you as a coach pass on hockey-specific tips, training and skills to the next generation of ice hockey players.
In our 39th installment, Hockey Coach Vision continues with “1@1 Bump and Drive to the Net.”
“1-on-1 Bump and Drive to the Net drill is a good exercise for players of all ages to work on puck possession. The keys to this drill are get the players used to taking contact on their body, protecting the puck, keeping the puck outside, keeping the body between the puck and the defender, then drive to the net and finish.” — Larry Huras
Excellent Puck Protection Drill for all levels.
-P1 pivots backwards, exchanges one touch passes with P2, steps up, exchanges more one touch passes with P2, pivots to the wall and receives last pass then drives to the net.
-P3 waits in the middle of the ice, then angles across on P1 to make physical contact with him.
-P1 must absorb contact while protecting the puck then drive to the net.
-P1 then becomes the next checker.
-At moment of contact, P1 should release the puck into a quiet area just ahead of him, initiate contact with checker to absorb the check, then pick the puck back up again.
-Checkers start with light contact then as players gain confidence and improve their technique, increase the pressure.
We are proud to present to you our newest editions to your team, the Goalie and the Coach. They can be added into every drill as new players, or by replacing any existing player you already have. #hockeycoach #hockeyapp #drills #hockeylovers #coaching pic.twitter.com/45IU3RXC24
