PARKVIEW, IN. — The Rockford Roadrunners captured two titles — one in sudden-death fashion — highlighting a whirlwind weekend of hockey at the third annual Fort Wayne OneHockey Tournament.
Over 400 players from 28 teams spanning six U.S. States converged at SportONE Ice House from Oct. 25-27, and at the end six new teams hoisted the cup.
The Roadrunners needed double overtime to defeat the Royal Oak Eagles, 6-5, in the 14U A championship while also taking home the 14 U AA title. The Ithaca Youth Hockey Association captured the 10U B tournament title, while the Sylvania North Stars seized the 10U A crown. The Kenosha Komets (12U A) and Rocky River Pirates (12U B) also emerged victorious.
OneHockey, among the leaders, world-wide, in organized youth hockey tournaments, delivered yet another smash hit to kick off the hockey season as teams from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio hit the ice with teams from Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin engaged in 59 games over the course of three days.
“Fort Wayne Tournament was a huge success. We had a few new programs that bring multiple teams, for example, the Kenosha Komets,” Shaun Lund, OneHockey Tournament Director, said. “They love being under one roof and all playing together. They told me they had an absolute blast and enjoyed every aspect of our tournament. We had many close games in the finals including the last game of the weekend went into double overtime.”
