LAS VEGAS, NV — Skogen Schrott, Kegan Lampinen and Jai VanRij each scored twice and Connor Brown added a goal and an assist as the Florida Alliance skated past the New Jersey Devils Youth, 8-2, in the final of the Superseries AAA Elite Hockey Las Vegas Showcase this past weekend at City National Arena in Sin City.
Schrott opened the scoring five minutes into the game and set up two more goals for the Alliance, which separated themselves in a one-goal game after one with three goals in the second period. Lampinen’s second goal of the game, with 6:53 remaining in regulation, gave Florida a 6-1 advantage. Ty Creech and Brown capped the scoring in the third for the 2005 team champions based out of Palm Beach.
Michael Chambra and Dylan Dykstra stood tall in between the pipes, guiding the Alliance to Roman Kirilytchev and Patrick Walsh scored for the Devils.
The Florida Alliance defeated Team Maryland, the Syracuse Nationals, Green Bay Jr. Gamblers, Colorado Thunderbirds in regulation before taking down the Madison Capitols, 3-1, and the Los Angeles Jr. Kings, 2-1, to reach the final on Feb. 18.
All told, 200 players from 12 teams representing 10 different states including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin.
“The events in Las Vegas this season have been great and it culminates with a terrific ’05 field the final event of the season,” Jeremy Dallow, President of Superseries AAA Elite Hockey, said. “Not only was the competition great with four of the top 16 teams in the nation in the semifinals, but the teams enjoyed a world-class facility. The Golden Knights have done an amazing job bring more great hockey into the area with this beautiful rink.”
The Devils defeated the Green Bay Jr. Gamblers, 6-1, before edging the Syracuse Nationals, 4-3, to reach the tournament finale. Hudson Gorski, Theodore Mallgrave and Thomas Klochkov had assists in the championship bout for the Devils, which went 3-1 in regulation leading up to the playoffs.
