LAS VEGAS, NV — The Chesterfield Falcons erased a one-goal deficit with five straight goals — two off the stick of Jeremy Emch 3:47 apart in the second period — en route to a 5-2 victory over the West Vancouver Warriors and the team title at Superseries’ 2004 Las Vegas Showcase at City National Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Max Chelico put the Warriors on the board, 1-0, with an assist from Jeevan Bal 9:52 into the finale, but Jacob Bosche scored to tie it 2:20 later for the Falcons.
All tied at one after one period of play, the Falcons struck for four goals in the second period beginning with Charlie Wind’s go-ahead goal, assisted by Emch and Anthony Conti 1:54 into the second frame. Emch provided what proved to the the game-winner 3:10 later to put Chesterfield up 3-1 before connecting again just under four minutes later. Connor Williamson capped the whirlwind, four-goal second-period when he found the back of the net with 1:45 left.
Down 5-1 after two, West Vancouver battled back in the third and made it a three-goal game when A.J. Lacroix hit with an assist from Bal, but it would be the last time the Warriors, which outshot the Falcons 30-20, would light the lamp.
“We love to bring teams to great cities and we love the fact that the NHL has helped turn Las Vegas into a “hockey town,” Jeremy Dallow, President of Superseries AAA Elite Hockey, said. “Teams had a great time in a world class city playing top notch competition and teams they are unlikely to see very often if at all.”
All told, a dozen 2004-age teams participated in the four-day tournament from Jan. 17-21 that included squads from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Nevada, Virginia as well as British Columbia, Canada.
The Falcons went 5-0-1, outscoring the opposition 26-7 while turning in wins over the Reston Raiders, Tampa Scorpions, Vegas Jr. Golden Knights and Warriors before turning the tables again on the Warriors in the final.
The Warriors went 4-2, earning wins over the California Golden Bears, California Wave, San Jose Jr. Sharks and Krivo of Colorado.
